Classic Pooh
Birthday Party!

Pooh's Playtime
(click here for a birthday supply checklist)
Invitations:
- Use the great invitations in Birthday
Express' package!
- For homemade invitations, you can: copy
Pooh's head onto construction paper and write the
information on the back; or place the details on paper,
insert into a balloon, and hand deliver to your guests
(remember Pooh is famous for his balloon ride); or use
Pooh stickers on plain cards or construction paper and
write party information in a wavy line like song lyrics.
I'm sure you can think of even better ideas, too!
Games:
- For my son's 1st birthday, I made small
bean bags out of scrap fabric, and had a friend draw Pooh
on a poster board. I then cut out his tummy, and the kids
had a bean bag toss to see if they could throw them in
Pooh's tummy. Then each child was given a set of 3 bean
bags to take home as part of his goodie bag.
- A fun game is to guess how many
"somethings" are in a jar, and the closest
guess wins the jar and contents. Try yellow and black
jelly beans (to look like bees in a honey jar), or little
honey candies. Make sure you count them before the party!
- Follow the Tigger: Play this follow-the-leader game just
the way Pooh, Tigger and the rest of the gang play it! If
you have Winnie the Pooh music, it makes a wonderful
addition to this activity. Otherwise, put on some dancing
music or other happy tunes with a lively beat. Let the
birthday child start as the leader. He or she begins by
bouncing up and down, leading the group around the yard,
around the room, or even in one spot. If you’re
indoors, have the leader do things like turn in circles
and rub their head while bouncing! (See Birthday Express for more ideas like this)
- Pooh always likes a good balloon, and so
will your guests. Why not try some games with balloons?
For the younger kids, you can play balloon toss and try
to keep your balloon in the air for as long as possible.
For elementary kids, tie a balloon to each guest's ankle
and let them try to pop each other's balloons while
protecting their own. Whoever has the last balloon wins.
- Try pin-the-tail-on-Eeyore.
Activities:
- Read Pooh stories (check them out from the
library if you don't already have some), and either have
a little "circle time" or read while the
children color Pooh pictures that you downloaded from
Playhouse Disney! (Activity)Page
- You can also run a Pooh video in the
background to add mood...
- Give each child a homemade set of Pooh characters to play with...it only takes a little time to
cut them out, and if you have a laminator you can make
them last longer.
Food:
- Serve peanut-butter-and-honey sandwiches,
another Pooh favorite!
- Make edible rain clouds out of rice crispy
treats, dipping half in chocolate for a stormy look
- Rabbit loves carrots, so surprise the kids
with carrot cake birthday cake, or simply serve some
carrots and dip as a snack.
- For a cake, check your local craft store
for a baking mold of Winnie the Pooh, or decorate it
yourself. The great thing about Pooh is how basic his
shape is...try it!
