Teddy Bear Birthday

Teddy Bear Birthday Party!

Teddy Bear Birthday

(click here for a birthday supply checklist)

Invitations:

  • Invitations can be made by using a simple teddy bear stencil to cut the card out of construction paper, or purchase invitations -- many bear styles are out there. Try Target in San Jose (lots of great ideas), Hallmark, or Birthday Express.com.
  • If you're feeling more creative, make simple sugar cookies cut with a bear cookie cutter, attach the party information on paper using a ribbon around the bear's neck. Hand deliver to your guests in cellophane bags. For brown bears, use a gingerbread dough instead of sugar cookies.

Games:

  • Make it a "Bear Tea Party" and have your guests each bring their own stuffed animal to have tea and cake.
  • A fun game is to guess how many "somethings" are in a jar, and the closest guess wins the jar and contents. Try yellow and black jelly beans (to look like bees in a honey jar), or little honey candies. Make sure you count them before the party!
  • Try musical chairs with your teddy bears. Start with 1 chair less than the total number of kids; when the music stops everyone sits in a chair; the remaining child watches the rest of the game (put her in charge of music for the next round); remove another chair and repeat until one child is left.
  • Play Pin-the-Bow-on-the-Bear -- instead of tail on the donkey.

Activities:

  • An activity you can try is having everyone make their own bear by gluing pompons together and adding googoo eyes. (you know what I mean!)
  • For a different location, try Build-A-Bear Workshop in Valley Fair, San Jose. Your guests can each make their own teddy bear, create a "birth" certificate, and have cake right outside the store in the play area of the mall.

Food:

  • For a cake, bake your own using (1) 8" round cake layer and (3) cupcakes for ears and the nose. Decorate with chocolate frosting and use colored frostings for eyes, nose and mouth. Or you can do individual cupcakes and use M&Ms for the ears and nose, frosting for eyes and mouth.
  • Serve sandwiches cut into teddy bears (use a large cookie cutter on the bread). Try honey and peanut butter -- bears like their honey!
