Birthday Party!

(click here for a birthday supply checklist)
Invitations:
- Use the great invitations in Birthday
Express' package!
Games:
- Play Spongebob UNO game. The
SpongeBob SquarePants edition of UNO features the amazing
Super Absorbency Rule, allowing you to force your
neighbor with the least amount of cards to
"absorb" one card from the player to his or her
right, one from the player to his or her left and one
more card from the deck.
- If weather permits, play squirt gun games.
Try to knock down plastic cups arranged in a pyramid
using squirt guns. See how many squirts it takes to knock
a cup over.
- This game, inspired by SpongeBob's underwater world of
fishy friends, is based on the traditional "Duck,
Duck, Goose" game. Instead of a goose chasing a
duck, a shark chases a fish. Gather all your little
fishies and seat them in a circle. To start, designate a
"Fish" to walk around the circle, tapping each
guest on the head and calling each a fish. After several
guests have been tapped, the "Fish" chooses one
guest and yells out "Shark" when tapping him or
her on the head. The Shark chases the Fish and tries to
tag her as she races around the circle and back to the
Shark’s spot. Repeat the game until each guest has
had a chance to be the Shark. (See Birthday Express for more ideas like this)
- Treasure Hunt: hide small toys like
sunglasses, shells, rubber balls, etc., in several
plastic tubs filled with sand. Let each child fish out a
toy, and then give another child a turn. Or, give each
guest her own pail with sand and toys and have a treasure
hunt race.
- Beach Ball Bongo: blow up dime store beach
balls and you can play endless games. Using one ball,
throw it in the air and have all the kids try to keep it
in the air (count the number of hits before it drops to
the ground). Break up into teams and create a relay race
with the beach balls. The relay can be as simple as
carrying the ball from point A to point B, or running
with the ball between your knees, or hitting the ball
with a straw back and forth. Let your imagination run
wild!
Activities:
- Learn to draw Spongebob Squarepants -
visit this fan site for directions (you may want to turn off pop-ups before
visiting).
- Make your own homemade bubbles; let all the kids blow bubbles and have a
contest for the biggest bubble, the one that lasts the
longest, flies the farthest, etc.
- Buy each guest a Tshirt, and let them
"sponge" paint designs on them!
- If time and budget allows, take the guests
to a local aquarium and check out all of Spongebob
Squarepants friends! The Monterey Bay Aquarium website
has TONS of activities that are water-wildlife related,
so check it out! Coloring Pages, Sea Otter Puppets, Lanternfish Sticks, and more.
