Scrapbook Idea!

Scrapbook Idea #1: Involve Your Children

Are you looking for something fun and different to do with your kids? Do you have lots of summer vacation pictures waiting to be put into albums? Why not combine a fun activity with your children together with organizing those pictures?

Scrapbooking can be enjoyed by children as young as six, all the way through the teenage years and into adulthood. Set aside a special “family night” at home or plan a “date night” with your child and attend a workshop (available through Creative Memories consultants or some local scrapbook stores). You will need a photo-safe album, adhesive, pens and some decorative supplies. You will want to be sure that all the products you use are designed for long term photo-storage – your album will be priceless. You will want it to last a lifetime.

For this scrapbook idea, help your child determine which photos to include and the order to place them in prior to getting started. Carefully supervise the use of cutting tools with young children, but you will be surprised at how quickly they learn to use all the tools and supplies. Encourage them to write as much as possible about their memories – journaling will later be the greatest treasure. Younger children can dictate to you what they want written.

I need to warn you that this will be an exercise in releasing parental control! Your child may want to cut photos into different shapes or decorate the pages with their own flare. It is hard to let the pictures be crooked or let them write silly phrases under the pictures. I would encourage you to let them have fun and experiment! It is okay if it looks like they made the album – they did and this is why it will be so special.

Not only will you have a several fun days together creating your albums, but also you will have hours of enjoyment for years looking at the albums and remembering all the fun times you had together. Pictures remind us of the best times in our lives.
