Scrapbook Idea #2 - ABC Albums
ABC Albums--The Perfect
Christmas Gift
Are you looking for Christmas
ideas for your children that do not involve going into
warehouse-size toy stores or stocking up on spare batteries?
Would you like to make a gift that will not be outgrown next week
or thrown to the bottom of the toy box? Consider making an ABC
album.
An ABC scrapbook-style photo album
has one page for every letter of the alphabet. You can include
pictures, stickers, and die cuts that begin with each letter. For
example, in my son's ABC book the "A" page has a
picture of Uncle Angelo, Apo and our guinea pig Adam. There are
apple, ant, and animal stickers down the side for a simple
border. Some letters are easier to do than others are. You can
even stage pictures if needed – your child playing with a
toy xylophone for the "X" page.
Whether you have a two-year-old
who is learning to identify family members or a young reader
learning how to spell, they will love looking through this album
over and over again. There are even variations you can make for
the grown-ups on your Christmas list. Consider making a Grandma's
brag book with pictures of the grandchildren Sleeping,
Playing, or Baking. You can
create an album of character traits you love about a friend
– their Laughter, Patience,
or Quick-wit. The possibilities are endless.
Creative Memories makes a
Sentiments Album that is 7x7". It is a great size for this
project – there is room for one or two photos cropped
slightly or up to four small photos. Creative Memories also
offers an "ABC Snap Pack" that makes the project even
easier. It is a kit that includes layout ideas to copy, precut
paper and stickers. You won't have to think of stickers for each
page on your own.
To get started I made a list of
words for each letter of the alphabet that I might have a picture
of. Next, take 26 envelopes -- one labeled for each letter -- and
begin collecting photos. This is a great way to use up duplicates
you can't bear to throw away but don't plan to use in the family
albums. You can have other members of the family get involved by
helping you think of more words.
Have fun working on this project.
You and your love ones will enjoy the album for years.
