Dora the Explorer Party

Dora the Explorer Birthday Party!

Dora the Explorer Party Supplies

Dora Starcatcher
Your child can dress in this
Dora the Explorer costume!

Invitations:

  • Use the great invitations in Birthday Express' package, or send an email invitation from Dora the Explorer webpage.
  • For decorations, here's an idea from Nick Jr.:
    "
Make a meandering trail into the party room using brown paper. Decorate your doorway with green crepe paper hanging "vines." To create tropical "leaves," cut long, wide ovals from green construction paper and fringe the edges. Drape crepe paper streamers from the corners of the party room's ceiling into the center, combining bright tropical colors like red, yellow and orange. You can make yellow tissue paper flowers with your child for an extra special touch."

Welcome Ideas:

  • Start with a treasure hunt, Dora-style. Give each child a treasure map, and have them search for a special prize or gift hidden around your house or outside. If they are young children, you can have a parent team with the child. One parent suggested placing Dora characters around the room for the kids to find. If you don't have any of the stuffed animals, then print pictures out from the Internet on your computer and place them on chairs, sofas, walls, for the guests to find.
  • Another way to use the treasure hunt theme is to place construction paper cutouts on the floor that direct the children first to the play area, then to the snack area, and lastly to presents. (On the tv show, Dora and Boots go to 3 locations each time with the last being the final destination. You can use that theme in many different ways for your party).
  • Have each child bring their own backpack to play games with, or give one to guests from the dollar store or from Oriental Trading Company. These can be goody bags as well as playing treasure hunt with them.

Games:

  • Play "Pin the tail on Boots the monkey," and oldie but a goodie!
  • Play musical chairs, only tell the kids that Swiper the Fox is stealing a chair each time. The remaining child can be "Dora" for the next round.
  • Don't forget a Pinata! What would a Dora the Explorer party be without a traditional pinata filled with candy? If your child would be distressed by hitting Dora, you can get a "Dora the Explorer Pull-String Piņata" which allows the kids to each pull on a string, and one of the strings opens the pinata.
  • Make a Dora the Explorer obstacle course with furniture or cones, or any safe objects in your home. Let the guests go one-by-one and time them, or play follow-the-leader through the course.
  • Play "Solve My Riddle" (the troll under the bridge asks Dora to solve riddles), and make it more of an "I Spy" game. Sit the children in a circle, and say "Solve My Riddle -- what's soft and green and people sit on it?" (your sofa, or describe whatever is in the room for the kids to guess).

Activities:

  • Copy the activity sheets from Dora the Explorer's website, and let the guests color, draw, etc. When they've finished, make a take home book for each child. Let them select a color of construction paper, gather their activity sheets, and staple together for a book that is completely unique! You can also give them stickers to decorate their cover with and write their name on the front, "Jack's Dora the Explorer Book."
  • Find all sorts of Dora the Explorer color pages and activity sheets here.
  • Play music from the tv show, either taping it yourself, or purchasing the Dora CD (you can get this online at Amazon, Nick Jr., or Target).
  • Remember to sing "Feliz Cumpleanos" to the birthday child (that's Happy Birthday in Spanish).
  • Make binoculars out of 2 empty toilet paper rolls, tape together, and let the kids decorate them by coloring, or taping objects to them (I wouldn't recommend glue, so that they can use them during the party). Have the children search for treasures using their new Dora binoculars.

Food:

  • Try a taco bar where guests can make their own taco.
  • Kids love quesadillas, and they're very easy to make: using 2 flour tortillas, fill with shredded cheese and microwave for 30 seconds. Cut into pie wedges.
  • Chips and salsa for a snack.
  • Try this cute Dora the Explorer birthday cake designed by Nick Jr.
