"Carschooling" Review

cover

"Carschooling" is a creative resource for any parent who drives kids around -- in fact, I recommend keeping a copy in your glove compartment for quick access!

Diane Flynn Keith, a local mom-preneur, has compiled a wealth of fun learning activities for the car in her book "Carschooling." She has them categorized into school subjects such as science, math, language arts, visual arts, and more. I enjoyed reading some of the unusual ways she has turned everyday occurances into real-life learning opportunities.

For example, Diane has a section on "Windshield Entomology" where she explains that the different colored splats on the windshield indicate what the bug has eaten (green means it ate leaves, black means it ate other bugs, etc.). So many wonderful and interesting ideas are jammed into "Carschooling."

Not only does the book have games and activities, but it also gives loads of advice from keeping your car organized to avoiding carsickness to strategies for the long haul.

If you dread long trips, or even "he's touching me" jaunts across town, then "Carschooling" will give you practical strategies for parenting on the road.

The age range for the games and activities goes from preschool through high school, and Diane has suggested "curriculum" for each of the ages which helps planning.

Thanks, Diane, for an inspiring guide for parents of "Road Scholars!"
