ArtHouse Kids Fall 2005

Registration begins August 19 and classes begin mid September. We have some of our usual great offerings, with all new lessons, of course, as well as a new class called "Guest Artist Workshop" where kids will get to work with a variety of professional artists. We also have several Adult Art Workshops this Fall, and we'll be offering our popular "Pizza & Art" night each month. If you have any questions email or call the ArtHouse at 975-9987.

Little Picassos (Parent Participation)

Ages 2 - 4 8 weeks $125.

Do you have a budding young artist at home who loves to make a mess? If so, this one hour class is perfect for your little artist. Kids will create tons of fun art projects at each of our stations while working on those motor skills! Draw, paint, cut, paste, squish clay or create masterpieces at our easel wall while mom or dad helps out.

A. Tuesdays: 9:30-10:30am ~ Sept 13 – Nov 1

B. Tuesdays: 11:00-12:00 ~ Sept 13 – Nov 1

C. Wednesdays: 9:30 – 10:30pm ~ Sept 14- Nov 2

Art Explorers for Pre-K & Kindergartners

Ages 4 - 6 8 weeks $125.

This one hour class is designed with pre-schoolers and kindergartners in mind. The class starts with a 10 minute sketch and drawing tutorial and is followed by exercises in free exploration where kids can experiment with many different materials during each class. We end the class with an instructional project by combining the skills we’ve learned that day. Child must be able to hold a pencil and draw simple shapes in order to feel successful.

Mini Masterpiece

Ages 4 - 6 8 weeks $125.

This is a mini version of our popular Masterpiece class. It’s never too early to start learning about Art History! During this 1 hour class your child will start with a sketch, followed by a lecture on our artist of the day with time for question & answer. We’ll finish with an instructional project based on that artist. Working in a variety of mediums including paint, watercolor, pastel, collage, clay and more, this class is informative & fun!

H. Thursdays: 1:30 – 2:30pm~ Sept 15 – Nov 3

Masterpiece!

Ages 5 - 11 8 weeks $175.

This 90 minute fine art class begins with a sketch and drawing tutorial followed by 3 exercises in free exploration, where kids experiment with many different materials. We then present a short lecture on our artist or art movement of the week and end the class with an instructional project based on that artist or movement. We’ll work in a variety of mediums including watercolor, acrylic, clay, collage, pastel and more.

J. Wednesdays: 4 – 5:30 ~ Sept 15–Nov 3, Gr. 3, 4, 5

Drawing & Painting Techniques

Ages 10 - 15 8 weeks. $175.

This 90 minute class is geared toward kids who really enjoy art and would like to learn more about how to draw and paint. Various techniques and mediums are explored including studies in light and shadow, figure drawing, quick sketching, perspective, watercolor and acrylic painting. Students will be encouraged to enjoy developing their own style through the various exercises. We’ll work with both beginning and advanced students in this class. L. Tuesdays: 6:30-8:00pm ~ Sept 14 – Nov 2

Cartooning

Ages 8 – 12 8 weeks $175.

This 90 minute class will be taught by Scott Willis, former political cartoonist for the San Jose Mercury News & nationally syndicated comic strip creator of "Mixed Media." Students will learn about fundamentals of cartooning with an emphasis on fun! We'll study basic drawing techniques such as size, shape, composition and line. We’ll explore basic concepts such as how to draw expressions and how motion can be represented in a cartoon. We'll also talk about various forms of cartooning such as comic strips, animation and illustration & learn about some influential cartoonists.

M. Mondays: 4:00- 5:30pm ~ Sept. 13 – Nov 7

NEW CLASS!

Guest Artist Workshop

Ages 8-12 8 weeks $175.

During this new 90 minute class students will meet a professional guest artist each week and work on exercises and a project in that artist’s specialty. Artists may include a painter, sculptor, watercolorist, cartoonist, polymer clay artist, pastel artist, and ceramicist.

N. Fridays: 4:00 - 5:30pm ~ Sept 9 – Nov 4

Pizza & Art Night

Ages 6-12 $50. each or $185. for all 4 workshops

One Friday a month from 6:30 – 9pm we’ll have a hands-on art workshop combined with a pizza dinner! Each month we’ll focus on a different medium. So drop off your kids and enjoy an evening out while your kids work on a variety of creative projects! We’ll wrap up the class with a tasty treat.

Other stuff at the ArtHouse

Grown Up Art Workshops (ages 16 and up, up, up)

These are fun, relaxing evenings that are a great opportunity to learn some thing new. These workshops make a fun “date night” or “mom’s night out”. Feel free to bring a beverage.

The ArtHouse can also provide these classes to individual groups.

Jewelry Basics Jewelry designer Marci Lamb will teach the basics of jewelry design including composition, bead stringing, wire wrapping and more. Go home with a necklace and a pair of earrings. All materials are provided but feel free to bring any beads or items that you would like to incorporate in your design.

Friday, September 23, 7-9pm $40.

Beginning Acrylic Painting Painter Ann Hadland will teach the basics of painting with acrylics including techniques, brushwork and working with mediums. You’ll work on some technique exercises and go home with a finished canvas. All materials are provided but feel free to bring your own brushes if you would like to use them.

Friday, October 14, 7-9pm $35.

Beginning Watercolor This class will teach you the techniques and tricks of watercolor painting. You’ll work on a variety of exercises and go home with a finished piece or two! All materials are provided but feel free to bring your own brushes if you would like to use them.

Friday October 21, 7-9pm $40.

Pastel Drawing Artist Katy Kindig will teach you the beautiful art of drawing with both soft and oil pastel. You’ll explore composition, blending and layering color and much more. You’ll wrap up the class with a finished piece of art!

Friday, November 18, 7-9pm $35.

Mosaic Learn how to make fantastic broken dish and tile mosaics. During the 1st class we will design our piece and apply our tiles and on our second meeting we’ll grout. Go home with a finished mirror or picture frame. All materials are provided but feel free to bring any tile or dishes that you would like to incorporate into your design.

Friday, December 9 &16, 7-9pm, $85.

Birthday Parties/Art Parties

Have an Art Party at the ArtHouse! We can host your Birthday Party or we’re available for private art lessons for small groups. ArtHouse Kid’s studio is available on Saturday or Sunday for parties for up to 15 kids. Birthday parties start at $250. for 12 children.

All about the ArtHouse

ArtHouse Kids was established in June of 2000 by artists Julie Stover & Marylea Adams. Our teaching staff consists of working artists, art educators and experts in early childhood education. We present quarterly studio classes every season as well as school programs & art workshops. Here at the ArtHouse we believe that we all need art. Creativity feeds the soul, builds self-esteem, encourages critical thinking, engages multiple skills, develops one’s imagination & judgment and is just plain fun.
